The Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said that female teachers would be appointed in all primary schools of the province, under a phased programme to ensure that the students from class 1 to class 5 are taught only by women teachers. The Chief Minister said this while presiding over a high level meeting, held to review the working of Education and Special Education Departments here on Friday.

The meeting was attended by provincial Education Minister, Mian Imran Masood, Minister for Special Education, Qudsia Lodhi, Chief Secretary Punjab, Kamran Rasool, Chairman P&D, Salman Ghani, Secretary Finance, Salman Saddique, Secretary Education, Javed Aslam, Secretary Special Education, Sohail Masood, Secretary Communication and Works Sabtain Fazal Haleem and Parliamentary Secretary for P&D Zil-e-Huma.

Pervez said that this step would help promote education among the girls students. He said a new structure of administrative monitoring machinery has been formulated in 34 districts of the province to ascertain the efficiency of Education Department on regular basis, in which district co-ordination officers (DCOs) are playing an active role.

He said the performance of Education Department would be judged in the light of the monitoring reports, which will ensure that resources allocated for the education sector are utilised properly.

The Chief Minister said promotion of education in the province was the top priority of the present government. He directed that school council systems should be made effective so as to ensure attendance of teachers in all the schools.

He said special attention is being paid to teachers training programme to achieve human resources development objectives. He said that a separate department has been set-up for effective implementation of the special education programme.

He said the intellectual and creative capabilities of the special children would be enhanced.
